About MRC / UVRI:
The Medical Research Council/ Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is seeking experienced and suitably qualified Ugandans for the following posts on an Enhanced Prevention project for improving the effectiveness of HIV prevention and care and treatment services in Uganda for women and their regular partners at high risk of HIV and other STIs. This project is funded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Uganda under the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and other donor agencies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
    Work with a team of four other mobilisers in the PEPFAR - Enhanced Prevention project, to encourage women and men to attend and receive services provided at the clinic.
    At the end of each week, a check should be done to verify whether the expected new women and men attended their screening and enrolment visit and a report compiled
    Conduct timely tracing of enrolled clients who have missed their follow-up or return visits
    Maintain and regularly update the database which contains the contact details and information of the clients
    To increase awareness and understanding of condom use in relation to HIV acquisition and transmission among bar and lodge owners/ managers in Southern Kampala
    Supports the Behavioural Scientist in the implementation of interventions for orphans and vulnerable children.
    The post holder will also undertake awareness raising activities in local communities.
    Ensure that clients needed for any research study or any other studies being carried at the GHWP clinic are followed up

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
    A UCE certificate with credits in English and Maths
    The successful candidates should have at least 3 years' experience in community mobilisation in health programmes.
    Experience in HIV and AIDS mobilisation, counselling and awareness-raising is desirable. Experience with community development and/or PEPFAR funded projects would be an advantage.
    Possess the ability to multi task and work in a result oriented environment. Ability to work independently and troubleshoot unexpected problems that may arise during the conduct of activities is important.


Job Terms:
These positions will be remunerated according to the Ugandan MRC/UVRI Unit pay scales. The appointments will be for one year initially but renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.
