About RWANU:
Concern implements RWANU which takes a preventive approach to reducing malnutrition, focusing on the first 1,000 days of life. The health and nutrition component of the program strengthens provision of basic health care for women and children, implements social and behavior change (SBC) activities for key health, nutrition, and hygiene behaviors, as well as preventative food rations for pregnant and lactating women and children 6-23 months of age. The behaviour change approach is implemented primarily through the mother caregroup approach.

Job Summary:
The Senior Nutritionist is responsible for technical oversight of all nutrition components of RWANU, implemented by Concern. The Senior Nutritionist manages and builds the capacity of the local technical team and designs nutritional and behaviour change modules and supports the implementation of all nutrition related technical inputs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Management and Quality Control of Technical components:
    Manage, supervise, provide ongoing technical support and leadership to nutrition staff located across the Karamoja region
    Line management and mentoring  of Nutrition Counterpart, Programme Support Officer  and Social and Behaviour Change Specialist.
    Ensure that line reports have regularly set and reviewed personal performance objectives that contribute to the delivery of RWANU.
    Strategising and sequencing nutrition components of Concern implemented nutrition components of the RWANU project.  This includes planning and developing technical components for timely delivery in line with the RWANU Detailed Implementation Plan.
    Supervising technical components of the project including all nutrition related training, food basket monitoring process, community level nutrition training and surveillance and technical support to Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) services. This will include mentoring and training of project staff (8 Health Educators and approximately 26 Health Promotors) and health facility staff.
    Ensure that RWANU incorporates best practice in caregroup and nutrition programming and contribute to learning through contributing to analysis and research.
    Deputise for Health and Nutrition Director- MYAP in their absence from project area.

2. Materials and Curriculum development:
    Responsible for the delivery of Nutrition and Behaviour Change related project components in line with RWANU technical narrative and quarterly and annual workplans &  targets
    Develop Curriculum and Behaviour Change messages for project components. This includes core modules for mother care groups and nutrition related messaging to key project stakeholders.
    Liaising with Nutrition Advisor (US based) and technical staff of partner agencies in developing curriculum, materilas and IEC products .
    Coordinating photography, graphic and printing inputs for materials production.
    Leads on the operational research, in conjuntion with the Health and Nutrition Director, including developing ToRs, supervising the consultants and ensuring the report findings are disseminated and adopted in the programme

3. Training& Capacity Building:
    Participate in recruitment, induction and capacity building of technical staff
    Lead on developing all Nutrition and Caregroup related training and support national technical staff in delivering training.
    Keeping the team and project partners  up to date with new innovations in the delivery of nutrition programmes

4. Advocacy:
    Advocate and liase with local government,District Health Teams  and nutrition stakeholders for the smooth implementation of nutrition related project components.
    Participate in regional nutrition advocacy initiatives and represent Concern at Nutrition related meetings/events in Karamoja region.
    Negotiating with stakeholders’ adjustments to programme plans or new interventions as nescessary.

5. M&E and Reporting:
    Oversight of Project Census Database and ensure Mother Care Groups are updated continuously.
    Manage the compilation and analysis of nutritional or other related data analyis
    Lead on all nutrition related reporting.
    As required attends partner and other stakeholders meetings and undertakes joint project supervision with relevant stakeholders


Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
    The candidate should hold a Masters’ degree in Nutrition.
    At least five years experience in nutrition field with minimum 2 years working on applied nutrition issues including household-level consumption, nutrition related behaviour change & care group models;
    Good understanding of the first 1000 days approach for the prevention of malnutrition
    Two years experience in programme/team management and building capacity of diverse teams.
    Good participatory planning skills and excellent communication and relationship building skills.
    Strong IT and understanding database software skills;
    Ability to analyse data and write project reports to a high standard.
    Experience in clinical supportive supervision for CMAM/IMAM
    Experience in implementing components of behaviour change into a programme
    Experience in implementing large projects in challenging environments.
    Medical Nursing/ Public Health Background is desirable
    Prior Experience with USAID projects.
