 Educat seeks Communications Officer/Trainer

Do you want to join a growing, dynamic, and creative team, and contribute to substantial private sector development in Rwanda? We are seeking a Communications Officer/Trainer to take ownership of the development and management of Educat’s communications.  The main responsibilities include designing and implementing communication strategies, facilitating trainings in market and marketing for the entrepreneurs in Educat programs, and liaising with local and international press.

About Educat:

Educat has operated in Rwanda since May 2008 and has been formally registered as an International NGO since April 2009. The vision of Educat is to contribute to poverty reduction through private sector development. We aim to approach this development by unleashing the full potential of the individual via a keen focus on creativity and innovation as driving forces in the creation of new and thriving businesses. Over the last five years, Educat has delivered long and short-term business and organizational development programs and workshops, facilitated conferences, and presented lectures at Rwandan and international universities. Our target group consists of entrepreneurs in different stages of development as well as youth in higher education.

About the job:

The Communications Officer will have two main roles.  First, they will be responsible for all of Educat’s communications, ensuring the organisation’s visibility, and facilitating outreach in Rwanda and internationally. A daily duty will be to develop and maintain a strong online presence.  For example, Educat’s website has more than 3000 unique visitors per month and our Facebook group has close to 1800 followers, but we want you to make those numbers even higher.

The second role will be as a trainer in Market and Marketing strategies and public relations for Educat´s target groups. This will include planning and facilitating training sessions as well as developing existing training materials and concepts.

The Communications Officer will be responsible for:

-External communication through Educat´s website and social media platforms
-Setting up and managing a communications team, developing strategies and implementing them, and reporting to the management group
-Marketing and advertising for the recruitment of clients for Educat programs
-Further developing, strengthening, and delivering trainings in Market, Marketing and PR for Educat clients
-Reporting and responding to tenders
-Building and maintaining existing strategic networks and partnerships connected to Educat’s brand and communication strategy

Desired qualifications:

Besides being ambitious, innovative, and entrepreneurial, the ideal Communications Officer will have the following qualifications and competencies:

-A university degree in a relevant field such as journalism, marketing, communication, or similar
-At least three years’ relevant work experience, preferably within journalism, marketing or with national or international NGOs
-Excellent written and verbal communications skills
-Fluent in spoken and written English; competence in Kinyarwanda and/or French a strong plus
-Public Relations and Interpersonal skills.
-Strong IT skills (experience with WordPress is an advantage)
-Ability and willingness to work weekends and outside of business hours if required
-Experience with systemic thinking and social constructionism
-Training facilitation experience
-Event coordination experience

What we offer:

Salary will range from 600,000 – 800,000 RWF (gross) and will be negotiated based on qualifications and experience.  Contracts are on an indefinite basis.  We are looking for people to start ASAP, but preferably no later than 1 November 2013. As part of your personal and professional development you will receive continuous internal training and coaching.
