 Job Title: Advisor Women’s Land Rights

About ULA:
Uganda Land Alliance is a consortium of International and National NGO’s and Individuals focusing on land, promotion of land rights and protecting the interests of the poor, vulnerable and marginalized through “Enhancing civic participation in land governance and resource management country wide.”

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
    Coordinate the further development of the gender thematic strategies in line with the overall ULA Strategic Plan and Programming guidelines;
    Provide leadership in the implementation of the gender thematic strategies through the Land rights Advocates, Male Action Groups, e.t.c
    Support the development of clear policy and practice change (PPCs) targets on gender within ULA Programmes, as well as at local levels, through a process of critical analysis and reflection;
    Provide leadership and technical support in the development and implementation of viable work plans for ULA programmes in line with ULA Land rights Centers and broader strategies and the overall gender thematic strategies;
    Facilitate the institutionalization of gender equality across the organization
    Support cross-cutting research and advocacy work around the gender theme;
    Enforce the implementation of the rights-based approach and the social exclusion analysis and other methodological tools that would be developed or adapted in the implementation of the gender thematic strategies;
    Coordinate capacity building initiatives on the gender theme for ULA staff and partners;
    Keep abreast of research and policies development on gender and gather relevant intelligence on issues of gender so as to keep ULA and its partners on top of the knowledge in the area and inform meaningfully the advocacy and lobby work;
    Develop and maintain sustained Partnerships and Alliances with Civil Society organizations and Social Movements at local, national, regional and Global levels to advance ULA’s work on gender and land;
    Develop and implement a lobbying and advocacy strategy and plans at national and local level toward critical actors and “change makers” in gender and land relations;
    Prepare advocacy materials and in cooperation with the gender working groups coordinate the mobilization and capacity building of popular mass movement across Uganda on issues of gender and land;
    Raise sustained public profile of ULA and its agenda through creating, developing and maintaining good relations with the media;
    Promote the development of practical tool kits to guide gender and land thematic work
    Engage in broader ULA programme and administration initiatives like fundraising

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
    The applicant should hold a degree in the humanities. A master’s degree in Gender studies, the humanities or its equivalent is desirable.
    Minimum 5 years of experience  in similar or related field;
    High level of conceptual and strategic thinking
    Ability to communicate impact with various stakeholders
    A very good understanding of gender issues in policy influence at local, national and international level
    Good organizational, negotiations, research and analytical skills
    Experience in movement building and management is required.
    Strong networking, team work and management skills
    Ability to work under pressure in diverse environments
    Ability to represent and articulate the organization’s philosophy at various fora
    Demonstrable effective written communications skills including the ability to prepare reports, proposals, policies and procedures
    Effective public relations and public speaking skills
    Research and program development skills
    Proven experience in participatory approaches to program design, implementation and monitoring
    Experience in program design and development
    Strong interpersonal and leadership skills;
    Ability to manage work load and meet deadlines
