Job Summary:
The Managing Director of Barclays Bank Uganda will lead the Product-led organisation, accountable for and growing the overall Barclays franchise through ensuring the development, execution and Board approval of relevant product strategies whilst protecting and enhancing the franchise’s profile and reputation with all internal and external stakeholders. The MD will also undertake the role of the Group Country Manager ensuring that Barclays has a single point of contact for regulators within the country, whilst facilitating and coordinating cross-cluster working across all Product and Functional areas

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  •     Lend a hand to the development of Corporate Banking objectives and policies in country to facilitate new business development
  •     Generate, evaluate and make recommendations on Corporate segment strategy
  •     Work collaboratively with the Risk team, help establish parameters for risk profile and policies
  •     Write proposals to increase the value of the Corporate portfolio
  •     Ensure strategic alignment and good Corporate governance practice in line with Group standards and objectives
  •     Take charge of the relationship management, leads and relevant legislative impact on business across borders for a portfolio of multinational and Large corporate customers
  •     Achieve or exceed set financial goals that have been set by the head of the business
  •     Identify customer business requirements in respect of the product and solution requirements needed to maintain and improve the customer proposition for the various segments that make up Corporate
  •     Offer technical support the effective execution of Governance, risk and Control frameworks as they relate to customer interface, customer value proposition and customer service
  •     Lead origination and execution of more complex or cross divisional transactions
  •     Assist the Managing Director in defining business strategies, goal and objectives for the corporate segment
  •     Offer technical support in the development of business in non presence countries
  •     Gather and interpret competitor information to inform strategic and product planning. Furthermore, provide market research for leads and share these with ABB
  •     Act as Absa brand ambassador by supporting the establishment of values, behaviours and risk appetite that underpin the achievement of Absa Namibia's objectives
  •     Facilitate a good quality cross functional working relationship with the other functional elements of Absa Namibia, the Country leadership team and the wider Absa Group functions. 
  •     Support performance development and coaching of the country corporate team
  •     Perform any other job role as assigned by the supervisor. 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  •     The applicant should possess a bachelor’s degree in Commerce or finance or Accounting or Legal or General or equivalent NQF level 6 or higher qualification
  •     At least five years’ corporate business development and relationship management experience
  •     At least ten (10) years International Banking experience
  •     At least two (2) years experience of portfolio management of large corporate business and business banking
  •     CA or MBA qualification will be an added advantage
  •     Significant experience of Corporate banking in an African environment is highly advantageous
  •     Computer literacy skills i.e. Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and the Internet
  •     Good decision making skills
  •     Good Relationship and networking skills
  •     Highly persuasive and influential
  •     Excellent presentation skills and ability to communicating information effectively
  •     Good learning and researching skills
  •     Results –oriented and meeting customer expectations
  •     Possess no criminal record
  •     Adhering to principles and values
