About URC:
Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) is a body corporate established under an Act of Parliament to construct, operate and maintain railway, marine and road services both inside and outside Uganda for the carriage of passengers and goods. As a result of privatisation of operations, the mandate of URC changed from that of an operator to that of asset holder, concession monitor and advisor on railway technical matters.

Job Summary:
The Chief Finance Officer will be responsible for planning, directing and controlling the Corporation's Financial Activities. As the head of the Finance Department he/she will be responsible for safeguarding the Corporation's assets by developing and maintaining an effective finance and accounting function.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

•     Plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in the finance department;
•     Monitor and control the Corporation's expenditure to ensure economy, efficiency and effectiveness;
•     Ensure that systems and policies exist to provide appropriate levels of security and control of resources and operations;
•     Establish an annual budget cycle, coordinating the budgetary process and ensuring that the budget estimates match the annual operational plans in accordance with established policy;
•     Maintain all accounting and financial data and systems necessary to record all transactions in accordance with the Corporation's policy, regulations and to International Accounting Standards;
•     Prepare accurate and timely management and financial reports on the Corporation's performance and financial position over time;
•     Develop and review internal controls that help in fraud detection and prevention;
•     Managing the relationship with the external Auditors and Bankers.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

•     The applicant must hold a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance or any other equivalent qualification from a recognised institution and a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA;
•     At least ten (10) years experience with at least five (5) in a senior management position
•     Additional post graduate degree in Business Administration will be an added advantage;
•     Computer literacy skills in MS Office and accounting packages such as Sun Systems, Navision and Pastel;
•     Good interpersonal and analytical skills;
•     Ability to innovate and build motivated and successful teams,
