Job Description:

The Gashora Girls Academy is an upper-secondary boarding school for 270 girls, which is located in the Gashora Sector of Rwanda. Our vision for our students is that they will graduate as inspired young leaders filled with confidence, a love of learning, and a sense of economic empowerment to strengthen their communities and foster Rwanda’s growth.

The DEAN OF STUDENTS will report to and be evaluated by the Head of School;

Is the immediate supervisor for and will evaluate all dormitory staff, the nurse, staff who are involved in the student advising program, staff involved in leading activities, sports, duty coverage, and the kitchen staff.

She will be Responsible for the coordination of all student activities outside the classroom program, including but not limited to:

-New student orientation at the beginning of the year;
-Students leaving for vacation, weekend, or treatment
-The student advisory program;
-The health and wellness and sports program (designed to provide the girls with healthy living habits, and the kitchen operations
-The activities/clubs/Saturday morning activities and field trips program
-Activities during the week of exams corrections with the prefects
-Will schedule the staff for prep and weekend duty, by creating a duty schedule at the beginning of each term, and make sure to report to the Head of School on the implementation of the programs.
-Will create the dorm duty schedule for each term;
-Will develop a community service program that engages the girls in meaningful contributions both to the school community, and to the local communities outside the school
-Will develop a “student leadership” training curriculum that will foster greater girl self-confidence and empowerment and provide real leadership opportunities and responsibilities for the girls, inclusive in this is the direct supervision and coordination of the Student Prefect Board;
-Will work with the Head of School to ensure that the campus is a safe and healthy venue by developing and monitoring the school’s security program, by arranging transportation to the Gashora Health Center as necessary, and by reviewing the school’s dining hall menu with the goal of providing healthy yet cost effective food for the girls;
-Will work with the Head of school to organize events for holidays (i.e: Independence Day), outside speakers, visiting school groups, etc;
-Will provide direct communication with the dining hall staff when the school is expecting visitors in order for them to accommodate the guests
-Will develop and implement discipline policies and a response system that accomplishes the twin and often conflicting goals of being both supportive of the students while maintaining community standards as laid out by the School’s Core Values;
-In conjunction with the Head of School and Director of Studies will plan the agenda for staff meetings;
-Will meet regularly with the Head of School and Director of Studies to review school progress;
-Will be an adviser to a designated group of girls;
-Along with the Head of School and the Director of Studies will plan and execute Visiting Day;
-Along with the Director of Studies will be in charge of the school when the Head of School is away;
-Other roles as directed by the Head of School.

QUALIFICATIONS:

She will have to be a university graduate with a minimum of 3 years working experience in similar environment. She will be committed to the betterment of girls’ education, and ideally should have teaching experience.

-In addition, you will receive Health Insurance and GGA will pay all appropriate taxes
-You will receive free on campus housing and board while the dining hall is open
-You will have 4 weeks of vacation holiday time during the calendar year to be approved by the Head of School in advance and taken when the school in not in session. (At no time may the HOS, DOS, Dean of Student all be absent from the school at the same time)
