About Project:

Plan Uganda in partnership with Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL) has received funding from Comic Relief to implement a three-year project –Partnership for Empowerment of Vulnerable Women & Girls in the Urban Slums of Kampala City. The project aims at
    Supporting vulnerable girls/young women to gain employable vocational skills;
    Increased access to integrated HIV/
    Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information, services and support; and
    Increasing access to integrated early childhood care and development among children of the vulnerable girls and women in the urban slums.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  •     Assemble target communities, families and key stakeholders at in the Urban Slums to participate in the integrated Early Childhood Care and Development initiatives, including health, nutrition care, psychosocial stimulation and early school readiness;
  •     Proactively participate in project planning, review and feedback sessions at all levels of project implementation with relevant stakeholders;
  •     Organize and directly facilitate trainings, mentoring sessions and other capacity building initiatives for Lead caregivers, ECCD caregivers and other relevant stakeholders.
  •     Prepare and manage annual project outlines and budgets;
  •     Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly narrative progress reports;
  •     Offer support the Project Coordinator in facilitating establishment and strengthening of ECCD networks with relevant government line departments and other stakeholders with in the Urban Program Area;
  •     Participate in regular collection of data and documentation of significant changes and lessons with support from the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Coordinator and the Project Coordinator; and Promote children rights and ensure that child protection measures are in place and functional in all project-related activities
  •     Perform any other relevant job tasks and duties as required by protocol.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  •     The applicant should possess a bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Education, Social Science, Social Work or Public Health;
  •     A minimum of two years’ experience implementing integrated ECCD interventions including, childhood nutrition care, psycho-social support, child-centered pedagogy & child friendly school environment, especially in an NGO setting.
  •     Prior experience of program implementation in an urban slum setting is an added advantage
  •     Excellent knowledge and understanding of current trends and developments in HIV/AIDS and OVC programs as well as in ECCD;
  •     Working knowledge and experience in use of participatory approaches and rights based programming;
  •     Prior experience in working in with community support systems including the Village Health Teams (VHT) and other Community resource persons;
  •     Excellent facilitation and training skills;
  •     Excellent interpersonal relationship building and community mobilization skills;
  •     Excellent communication skills both oral and written including report writing;
  •     Good working knowledge of Microsoft office programs including MS Excel, MS Word and Microsoft Power Point and other systems applications; and
  •     Possess the ability to communicate and facilitate a meeting in the local language(s) spoken in the project area is prerequisite.
