About MRC / UVRI:
The Medical Research Council/ Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is seeking experienced and suitably qualified Ugandans for the following posts on an Enhanced Prevention project for improving the effectiveness of HIV prevention and care and treatment services in Uganda for women and their regular partners at high risk of HIV and other STIs. This project is funded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Uganda under the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and other donor agencies.
Job Summary:
The Behavioural Scientist will support the development of the behavioural interventions, find innovative ways of addressing the structural drivers that put women in particular at risk of violence and infection.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Supports the implementation of interventions for orphans and vulnerable children
Participates in strategic planning and project implementation with other staff in the Social Science Programme
Works closely with the community mobilizers and support the recruitment and maintenance of a cohort of female and male sex workers and their paying and non-paying partners
Conducts Health Education and Counselling sessions for Women and their male partners
Conducts both qualitative and where appropriate quantitative analysis
Undertakes preparation of reports and prepare presentations of project findings for conferences and workshops.
Generates timely and accurate monthly and quarterly reports for the clinic and as required by funders
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
The applicant should hold a MA/Msc/MRes in social or behavioural sciences
At least two years' experience in a similar position from a reputable institution.
Additional training in Counselling will be an added advantage.
Experience working in health related research or in an HIV/AIDS institution.
Good writing, communication and presentation skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Computer literacy skills and ability to use various computer packages.
Job Terms:
These positions will be remunerated according to the Ugandan MRC/UVRI Unit pay scales. The appointments will be for one year initially but renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.
